Halloween is now just around the corner. I don’t know about you but Halloween is one of my favourite times of year, because you can get super creative! Instead of splashing lots of cash on cheap tacky decorations, why not make some myself? Here is a step by step tutorial on how I create these adorable white fluffy spiders.
You will need:
White paint (optional)
Tools:
Step 1:
Start by threading a white pipe cleaner through your wooden bead. Bend the wire about one third up from the bead, creating two spider legs.
Step 2:
Repeat this step as many times as you can fit the wire through the bead. My bead allowed me to push three pipe cleaners through.
Step 3:
You want your spider to have 8 legs, so if you find you are struggling to fit any more pipe cleaner through your bead, you may want to stick the remaining legs on with a hot glue gun. Have a small bend on the end where you are planning to attach, to ensure it is secure – you don’t want any of them falling off! Glue the legs underneath the others, so you don’t see the glue.
Step 4:
Once all the legs are attached, bend the end of each leg to give the spider tiny little feet. If you find your spider looks slightly lop sided, you may need to trim the legs slightly with some scissors – to ensure the spider is stood nice and firmly on all his legs. You may even raise a couple of legs on either side – to make the spider look like its walking.
Step 5:
Now, using you hot glue gun, attach your two pom poms where you would like the face of the spider to be. I recommend sticking them about the same height as where the legs attach.
Step 6:
Next you want to paint on four small circles for the eyes with some black paint. Two big in the middle, then two smaller dots up on the side. You can add more eyes if you wish. I recommend using a tiny detail paint brush to get the circles as precise as possible.
Step 7:
For an additional bit of detail, add white paint on the edges of the eyes – to give them that glazed effect.
That is how to create these adorable, affordable little white spiders! These take about 10-15 minutes each to make. This is a lovely little project for you or even to make with the family. Just be careful with the hot glue gun of course!
